Welcome & About

Hello! Welcome to Tertiary Colors!

First, let me tell you a little about my blog...

Although I do not currently have my own classroom, I am eager to get a head start on my art teaching career! Thus, it is my goal to utilize this site as a place to share and organize my ideas, lessons and goals pertaining to art education. Currently, you can find posts about art lesson ideas, and lessons I am currently teaching at an after-school enrichment program for under-privileged children, as well as a page dedicated to my resume, education philosophy and references. There are also a links to two of my other blogs; one about my line of jewelry and another dedicated to some of my other various projects.

In the near future, I hope to add a gallery of my artwork and a page of art education resources. I also intend to create more regular posts that also include a more in depth look at various topics in art education.

Now, about me...

My name is Jessica Walter. I studied Fine Art and Art Education both in Akron, OH and Canandaigua, NY. I am currently a substitute teacher in several school districts in Summit County (OH) and I very much enjoy the opportunity this offers me to get a glimpse into a large number of grade levels and subject areas. Professionally, it is my goal to my inspire students towards a love of learning, individualism, a sense of responsibility and an overall lack of apathy for the world around them. For more on my professional goals please visit my 'Hire Me!' page.

And on a more personal level (in case you care)...

I ♥ to learn. I think: A LOT. opinions are what make us human. Apathy is my enemy. Asymmetry is my friend. Aesthetics is the love of my life. I am quite simply obsessed with anything that appeals to the senses: art, music, dance, nature. MUSIC IS MY SOLACE. A song is only as good as the words that make it. this goes for books too. I ♥ books! If I am going to cheat on aesthetics it will be with books. most likely DK publishing. I ♥ poetic phrasing, but typically find poetry to be too wordy. (unless it pertains to nature) I THRIVE ON SUNSHINE but worship the occasional rainy day as well. And don't even get me started on Thunderstorms. I have trouble eating pears..they are just too beautiful. Variety is the spice of life (along with passion and inspiration) I embrace change. I APPRECIATE. I don't have enough time. sometimes I feel like I was born in the wrong decade, possibly the wrong century. To feel a gentle breeze on my bare skin is ABSOLUTE PERFECTION. I ♥ déjà vu. And chocolate. I am always looking for perspective. And always growing out my hair it seems. (Until that spontaneous urge to change it comes along.) My eyes are gold even though my driver's license says hazel. They are my best feature; my fingernails are my worst. I can be neat and organized and punctual or messy and impulsive and laid-back. (I’m not sure what determines this.) I AM determined. and independent. flat land bores me. I want to live somewhere beautiful! September is my favorite. I am tone-mute (and this truly does hurt to know). I ♥ fashion. and costume jewelry. and flowers (hand-picked or still-in-dirt) After all I AM a girl. Water is my drink of choice. I find it impossible to pick a favorite color; but I want to be a color czar. I AM an oldest child. I am FOREVER OPTIMISTIC. and I am moving on with my life...I HAVE FOUND PERSPECTIVE.
(I hope you find yours too.)
